[ 1st Presentation ]

The first presentation done by me was motivated by recent news about politics and the general elections.
I feel that the younger generation don't really care about politics, which is something that is worrying because the younger generation play a role in shaping the future.

Therefore, I tried to persuade the class on why they should vote.
The topic, to be honest, is very controversial and dangerous.
But I just felt like I had to do it, it is something I believe in.

Why YOU should vote

In Malaysia, a person is an eligible voter once he or her turns 21. You live in a democracy and that means that you get a say in who runs your country, and by way of this privilege you also get a say about how your country is run. It is very easy not care and practice the "whatever, who cares" kind of attitude but you shouldn't brush this great honor off so quickly.
Sure registering can be a bit of a chore, having to head down to a polling station on voting day to cast your vote, which may cost you some time and a few bucks for gas.
But whether you know it or not these are very small prices to pay for the right to vote.
In some countries people are literally dying to be able to cast a ballot and make a difference.
It's your money
The party or government you vote for will decide how much of our wealth to invest in public services and how to fairly share the tax burden. If you want to see your hard earned money spent properly by authorities, vote. If you complain constantly on how our government officials spend taxpayer’s money, vote.
Education
You elect local and state school board members who set public education policy and budgets that will affect how well prepared your children and grandchildren will be for the future. Quality and cost of higher education will also be affected. If you are unhappy with the education system, constantly changing from English to Malay and back to English again, vote. If you are unhappy with the way schools are run, vote. If you wonder why most of you have to pay so much for education while others get it for free and get it easily, vote. Every vote counts and if you don’t vote, the trend will continue.
JobThe government influence what job training is available, minimum wage, pay equity, fairness in hiring, workplace safety, health insurance through your employer, job and pension security. For instance in Malaysia, certain jobs rewarded based on race instead of qualification. The older generation never questioned their rights or authorities, but as the younger and more improved generation, we must know our rights and that all of us are equal.
 Health care.
Actions by the government affects private insurance laws that determine your access to health care. Government healthcare in Malaysia is very limited. It may be cheaper, but the system is not efficient and the que to cure your sickness is very long. By the time it is your turn to see the doctor, you may have already died.  Therefore, insurance companies are making big money, and most of us have to foot hefty insurance payments because we are not secured when it comes to healthcare.
Roads and Transportation Population and traffic are growing rapidly. Your government decide what highways are needed, what alternatives to highways such as public transit to support, and how to pay the bill.

Social Security
The government decide how much payroll tax you pay, cost of living increases and what medical services you receive and share payment for.
Plans and Budgets
Government officials set standards, enforcement strategies and budgets. They plan and zone where roads and industries will be built and how public lands will be used --decisions that can determine how and where you live and work.
Neighbourhood The elected officials you vote for make daily decisions about crime prevention, laws and law enforcement, safe and affordable homes, traffic patterns, where to put schools, parks and recreation. This may affect your property value and convenience.
Fairness & EqualityCertain races can get properties at lower prices and receive better benefits than others. Certain people can get government scholarships easily. Certain businesses are only available to certain people. Certain people have to pay more tax than others. Voting directly effect the quality of your life , therefore voting is worth your time and attention.
No Vote, No Talk
If you don't vote it is like saying you don't care how your country is run, so if you don't care, why bother complaining about bad political policy? If you don't vote you really have no right complaining about anything the government does.Want the right to complain when the government make a truly heinous decision? Then you must exercise your right to vote.
Bottom line: you should vote because you can.
Voting is a tremendous gift. Believe it or not, young people just like you in other countries actually fight and even die for this right; a right that so many youth in democratic nations take for granted.
Comments by Mr.Deepak: Good effort in trying, but topic is abit sensitive, try not to bring out race such as " Black" and use " African American" inst
